花墟的熱鬧背後,承傳著獨特的歷史源流。百年前,港英殖民地領域北以界限街為界,造就此地成為九龍半島其中一條最古老的街道。其時農民從新界農地帶來新鮮花卉及蔬果,於附近一帶街道擺賣,漸漸形成墟市,其中一條街道更命名為「花墟道」。直至上世紀初九廣鐵路通車,花墟更添熱鬧,花卉及園藝店舖如雨後春筍,形成富特色的社區經濟模式。時至今日,花墟已成為九龍半島廣為人知的重要地標。

多年來花墟與鄰近一帶多元化的社區經濟互利共生,聚集並發展成滿足不同消費群組和民生需要的街道,如園圃街(雀仔街)、通菜街(金魚街及女人街)、西洋菜街、花園街(波鞋街)等,充份體現了濃厚的香港特色。

The ‘Flower Market’ and its surrounding communities share a unique historical background. Hundred years ago, the territories comprise the mainland area north of the Boundary Street of Kowloon Peninsula, attribute to the street became as one of the oldest streets in Kowloon. At that time, farmers from new territories supplied flowers and fresh fruits to urban citizens. Numerous street pedlars gradually transformed to the early stage of ‘Flower Market’, one of the streets was named Flower Market Road. Kowloon-Canton Railway came into operation in early 20s made the place even more prosperous with diversified community economies, nowadays, Flower Market has become an important landmark in the Kowloon Peninsula.

The Flower Market and neighboring businesses build a mutualistic community, including the adjacent area such as Yuen Po Street (Bird Garden), Tung Choi Street (Goldfish Market and Ladies Market), Sai Yeung Choi Street and Fa Yuen Street (Sneakers Street) etc., represent Hong Kong’s unique living culture.
